Canada Anemone
Perennial herb, 30-60 cm tall.
Flowers: White 2.5 - 3 cm wide with five petal like sepals.
Habitat: swamps, floodplains, sandy shores, wet meadows, roadsides and drier habitats.
Anemones contain a toxic compound which can irritate the skin. Native peoples used ground anemone roots to make a poultice to treat wounds and bleeding. Some native groups also used in to clear the throat before singing. A tea made from the roots was believed to help soothe lung diseases.
