Canada Mayflower
Also called 'wild lily of the valley.
5-25 cm tall; perennial.
Can be confused with the three-leaved smilacina. Canada mayflower has 2 petals and 2 petal-like sepals.
Fruits: Speckled, pale red, round berry; hard and green at first; ripens July
Habitat: All moisture regimes, soil textures and stand types; abundant
Aboriginal peoples used the root in a sore-throat medicine. The berries are reported to be bitter tasting and may cause diarrhea.
